Blogging for a Safer Internet

The object of this blog is to add an additional voice to the mix of individuals speaking their minds about the Internet, its virtues and its dangers. I have kids old enough to access the Internet and I am extremely cautious about their access and permissions. I'm not an Internet nazi, but I do know the kinds of dangers that lurk on the Internet. My internet filter is not enough to catch everything that comes across and that disturbs me. Different rates of error are acceptable in different industries. For a potato farmer, it's not a big deal if one bad potato in the bunch of 50 or 100 gets through. For a parent though, I know that one bad website that slides in can do permanent damage to my child. I'm unsatisfied with the amount of filtering options I have to block porn. I'd like it to be done at the ISP level, but we don't have that ability, and even those services aren't all fail-proof. So until something real and permanent comes along, I'll keep hounding on legislators and other decision makers to get the job done.
